valve noise
My valve are ticking pretty badly, i just adjusted them last night and it helped a little bit but not a whole lot, it sounds like a diesel when it is at low RPMS, any thoughts to what i should attempt to do next to fix my problem?

how many miles on it? may need new adjuster screws and nuts and maybe the rockers/cam are a little worn as well. all of this plays a factor in how loud that valve tap will be. what did you use as a torque setting for that valve cover? also keep in mind the more the valve cover grommets and gasket are worn, the closer it gets to the rockers as well. so they may need to be changed as well.

that is alot of valve lash. My 22re is set at .08" & .010". Maybe the turbo models are supposed to have more but that seems like too much. I would expect them to make a ton of noise set that loose.

im a crazy canuck i use the metric system. so yeah 0.08" and 0.010" are what i used, there are 383000kms on the truck but only 40000kms on the rebuilt motor, the cam was reused though so it has a pile of kms. could that be my problem?

take one of the adjuster screws out and look at the side that is on the valve itself. if there is two flat spots that look similar to an hourglass then they really should be replaced. it will be nearly impossible to look at the rocker faces because the head bolts would have to come out to get the rocker assembly out. but I would inspect those screws. I'd be willing to bet the guy didn't replace them.
