valve lash woes, and other q's
So i adjusted the valve lash with the motor good and hot, its got around 206k on the clock so i figured it was overdue. they were all tight apparently.
but i set the intake to .08 and the exhaust to .12 now it sounds horrible. but anyway, while tinkering with it i noticed this (look at pic)
what is suppose to be connected to that? ^^ its right above the starter if you couldn't tell.

seems like that would be the place the reed valve would be but it's facing in an odd direction. is that an EFI or carbed truck? not sure but is that a 3.0L?

I wonder about why its running horrible at stock valve lash specs. Why? Cause mine did the same thing. I went back and tightened them down .001" and it helps.
The only thing people have said on here is that the adjuster screws wear down, creating a false reading (they turn into hour glasses on the bottom rather than flat). Next time I'm feeling ambitious I'll take the valve cover off and replace them.
In fact, does anyone have the part # handy?

gonna go look at mine, but the only thing I remember under the intake like that was the reed valve, but the hoses run forward and back not pass to driver like that.

not the best photos in the world, crappy camera but here you go. In the last photo is the only thing I think that thing is but it was either relocated or just in a different spot because of year difference.
