if i were to remove my valve cover to paint it would i need to change the gasket? if i do the sick coat of green i want to put on will not be worth it. lol

 

no need to change them, but if they are originals or are old then it might be a good idea

 

why not change it? its like under ten bucks

 

if it is old it will most likely crack when you take it off, just replace it, if you dont have time to do it right the first time you must have time to do it over again.

id ur going to the effort of removing the valve cover, ur gonna have to change ur oil and most likely replace the gasket cuz it is most likely the original gasket. Oil changes are easy if you do em urself, and gaskets aren't that hard, but if i understand what ur willing to do to paint it, go for it. It'll look pimpin

 

If I recall correct, the gasket (well, more of a big rubber o-ring) was more like $30. Pull it off, look at it, if its cracked replace it, if not, leave it. Its not like a single-use paper gasket. No reason to go replace a part when its still fine if its an easy to replace part. By all means replace the pilot bearing on your flywheel when your doing a clutch as that is cheap and hard to get at, but the rubber gasket on the valve cover of a R motor is super easy to get at to replace.
