Valve Adjustment Question
I bought a '95 pickup with a 22RE. Along with the truck I got a packet of information from a previous owner with various items circled. I'm not sure if the truck actually contains the circled items.
One of the items is a DOA camshaft (EFI - C270-INJ). First, is there an easy way to tell if I have this cam once I remove the valve cover? Second, are the valve clearances still .008 and .012? This is my first time adjusting valves.

Unless there is a part number stamped where you can see it, you're going to have a hard time identifying that cam.
I think the preferred clearance is .007 and .011 which seems to run quieter. Maybe someone could confirm this.

Since this is my first time removing the valve cover on this (or any) vehicle, I'll probably not be fast enough to do it hot anyway. I'll check them cold and go from there I guess.

quick tip. check the 7 with an 8, and the 11 with a 12. if the 8 and 12 go in, the gap is to big, if they don't, good job move to the next one..

Are sure about that, tortis? The manual does say it should have slight drag...meaning it would slide with the appropriate gauge.
I learned from MMA Alex on the forum here to do it this way.....
Insert the feeler guage of appropriate size
Tightened (or loosen) the adjuster stud just until the feeler will no longer move
Then, back if off just a hair until the feeler will just move
Then, adjust the next and so on
That's the way I've done it, but whatever works. I mean, we are only talking 1/1000ths....not much. So, what's the difference, eh? On that note, I may have to try that method next oil change (coming very soon!)
Anyhow....
GoldenBear, it's a very easy job. You'll catch on quickly, so don't sweat hot or cold adjust as you may find....being that is your first time....you'll be going back to do it a couple or more times until you're happy. In other words, you'll get good enough to adjust them hot the first time.
Oh...a tip.
Use a 12mm box wrench to loosen/tighten the stud nut and a flat head to adjust the stud itself. When you go to tighten down, hold the screw driver on the stud steady so as not to lose the adjustment when you're turning the wrench.

Anyhow, GoldenBear, the tolerances can be different on aftermarke/performance cams. You need to call DOA and find out how you can tell and if yes what they are on that cam.
