valve adjustment

yeah i looked in and it seems that i have plastic guides but cant determine whether it is or isnt worn. what brought me to the conclusion that it was the timing chain was that the tapping sound would vary in volume. as the rpm would drop as i decelerated it would get a little louder. its kind of a slap mixed with a tap. truck runs perfectly fine just noisy and it bothers me. the valves tap less but the sound doesnt change too much just gets faster as the rpms increase. ima have to go in there and look at it again. how much does that timing chain set go for? if it isnt too expensive im going to change it

well i just readjusted them to a tighter spec and it sounds better. while i was in there i looked down into where my timing chain is and noticed the two grooves that the slacked chain was engraving into the side wall. the guides are plastic and im guessing they're gone. would this be the cause of my slappy tappy engine?!???

Time for metal backed guides and a new chain.
