Valve Cover Baffle

1991 3.0 V6 4x4

Just rebuilt my engine new everything... The valve cover baffles popped of the valve cover when I was cleaning them. I reattached them (by melting the tabs that hold them on) and they fell off.

What do the baffles do?

Are they really needed?

Any aftermarket covers?

Thanks

They allow the crankcase gasses to escape while keeping the oil in. If you don't have them, oil can get into your PVC system and intake on one side or into the air intake and throttle body....and even down into your air box. Just depends on which valve cover you're having the trouble with.

No aftermarket covers that I'm aware of. Have you called any salvage yards?

Thats correct. Calling a yard you should be able to find one for a few dollars

That is some terrible spelling my apologies. My only excuse is a severe lack of sleep.

Phoned around and the wreckers want 50 bucks. Not to bad

There are also plenty of dealers on the internet who offer OEM 25% off regular dealer prices.

Any updates? I did the same thing and would like to avoid getting a new cover if possible...who's to say a used cover won't do the same thing once it's installed. No one has tried to 'fix' theirs before?
