Upgrading OEM Headlights

Hey everyone, do you have any suggestions about upgrading my stock headlights? One of my lights has moisture inside of it. I'm assuming that means the seal has broken or worn out, so it's time to replace them, or better yet upgrade! Anyone have any suggestion for a good bright upgrade that's easy to install. I know hella has a conversion kit but I want something easy that can be done in 15 mins or less. Thanks in advance.

Hellas, IPFs,etc., install in about 15 or 20 minutes(exactly the same as replacing the stock sealed-beams), working at a leisurely pace.
Nothing else to do unless you want to run higher than stock wattage bulbs in the Hellas, then add an hour to install an aftermarket harness.
Otherwise, just get the regular sealed beam replacement headlamps: They're still better than the old round sealed beams!

The general consensus seems to be switch to an H4 conversion housing, whether Hella, IPF, or a cheap e-bay version is up to you (based on cost, reviews, and light patterns), and getting 55/60w bulbs (55 watt normal driving, and 60 watt high beams).

when I get around to replacing mine I'll probably go with the Hella E-Code (non-DOT) housing with the 55/100w bulbs (100 watt high beam) and it looks to be approx $100.

Heres a good thread that should help you a little: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/replacement-sealed-beam-lamps-85637/

I run the Hella ECE conversion lights with 55/100W bulbs (www.rallylights.com). To protect them I ordered expel clear plastic covers from autoseattle.com. Nothing worse than having to replace a lamp every 6 months.

I replaced mine with sylvania xtravisions, and noticed a decent improvement considering i only spent $20 for them. I used to have silverstars in my ford explorer, and they were bright, but they burned out way too fast. The xtravisions are soposed to be a compromise between brightness, and lifespan.

If you're looking at spending more replacement housings, and redoing the wiring is the way to go if you're really looking for more light.

I ended up putting on hella 500 driving lights for the twisty dark maine roads around where I go to school, and those seem to be the real key to being able to see better for those types of situations.

Wal-mart has two super blue headlights for 23$, I love them. They are so bright that I get people flashing there brights at me because they are so bright. Cheap and affective.

I haven't tried different bulbs, but I put on 4crawlers harness upgrade and it really seems to help a lot. http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...#WiringHarness

If people are always flashing you, it's probably because they're aimed improperly. Don't go cheap... aim your headlights properly and you'll be fine with more powerful bulbs... But like 4Crawler always says, you probably need a better light wire harness to get the correct voltage to your new lights. I took the light upgrade to a different level than just replacement bulbs and did an HID retrofit. For pics visit the link in my sig. or if it's something you want to do and have questions, PM me or visit www.hidplanet.com/forums.

www.rallylights.com has the e-code replacement units that utilize an H4 bulb of your choice. my friend did it to his 87 p/u and they rock.

Ok, with the hella conversion h4 55/60w kits, they have several choices:

Kit with Hella 60/55w H4 Bulbs
Kit with Hella 60/55w Xenon +50% H4 Bulbs
Kit with Optilux 60/55w Xenon White XP +100% H4 Bulbs
Kit with Hella 60/55w Yellowstar H4 Bulbs
Kit with Hella Premium 60/55w Xenon +100% H4 Bulbs

all this at rallylights.com so which ones do I want? I thought there was only one choice of 60/55's but there's 5... I am not upgrading the wiring at this time so which is the best choice? :pat:

this is what i ordered... love them... stock wiring because i found that i had a negligble voltage drop from the battery ~-0.5v. that was the deciding factor on upgrading the wiring or not,

from rallylights.com
6054B pair 200mm H4 (h6054) w/ 100/55w H4 bulbs.
$92.60

by far the best money i spent on my truck. i only used the brights when other people are not around, so being over spec is not big deal to me

did you see this??
http://www.rallylights.com/hella/bulb_help.htm

the +30%, 50%, 100% i think refers to the color temp - plus %100 will be at the "blue-ish" end of the spectrum.

so you have your option of the Hella, in a standard, a +50%, or a +100% color temp, or a yellow bulb. or an optilux version of the +100%

i would go with the Hella +50% if you wanted to stay within spec... (pesonal pref)

I have the IPF H4 conversion.. even with basic Hella H4 bulbs they are way worth the few ewxtra bucks over sealed beam...

I have experaince with the Hellas ans IPF, while both are a awesome upgrade I prefer the illum pattern of the IPF.
