Underdash Mounted A/C System

Underdash Mounted A/C System
Well i tried to fix my a/c system last year. i replaced the drier, evaporator, expansion valve, compressor. put in new o-rings the only thing i didnt replace was the condensor. pulled a vaccum for 2 hours and charged it with freeze 12 which is compatable with r12 systems and suppose to get colder. checked gauges all reading were fine. vent temp got down to 40 degrees but still didnt make cab cold enough when its 95 degrees out. vents dont blow out hard enough. now it wont get below 60 on the highway. so i was thinking about these underdash mounted a/c systems. are these a good choice? do they make them for toyotas?

Mine does the same thing and I live in texas...its too humid, mine gets freezing on the freeway though, I dont know if you have window tint or not, but it helps on keeping the cab cooler! These trucks also dont blow hard, which sucks in this weather.
I dont know if you have looked under your dash, but there really isnt enough room under there for and under dash one!!
I would check your pressures again, and see if your rad fan is working. Cause if the compressor is working and the temperatures are at 40 degrees, and everything is recirculating, you didnt fix the problem, you probably have a leak somewhere!

im talking about engine driven fan behind rad. i dont have a fan in front of the condensor. i dont think 87 models had one? i dont see the purpose of one since air will be forced through it when you drive.

I didn't know there was such a thing as an in dash / under dash AC system. I'm keeping an eye here, I'm interested in installing aftermarket AC in my truck.
What make/model of underdash ac system were you looking at?

well all i have found were just for the older american made cars. havent found one for toyota but thats why i was asking if they made one that would fit. ive pretty much just gave up on the factory a/c.

That's what I found through searching. I was looking for something more modern looking.

I know the second gen 4Runners have them to help the condensor. I suppose you're right that if you're moving, there should be flow.

It's not going to get much colder than 40*. If it's not blowing enough air, maybe check the vent van. Mine was clogged with all kinds of crap, looked like a rat made a nest in it. It should freeze you out on the highway. I can't keep mine on hi for very long because it gets too cold and I don't even have tinted windows, plus I have more cab room being a 4runner.

It's usually at least 10* cooler in the summer and about 40* cooler in the winter.

would you mind posting a link to the underdash setup you saw?
My A/C is doing something funny - bought the truck about 10 days ago and the ac was killer cold; just went wheeling yesterday (no a/c running) and today on my drive i noticed a louder hissing noise (almost like air being blown through an empty aluminum tube ) constantly loud until i hit higher rpms, and the air got faintly cold... it's only the 2nd time i even used the a/c! Id hate to think it had a leak that was covered up w/a few cans of 134a the day i went to see it...
