uncoding the differential

i read 4crawlers write up on the diffrent gearing for the 88 trucks n runners.

to cut it short bad vibrations led me to a dying u-joint (np) but i decided to drop the shafts to see the color codes.

rear-yellow indicating 4.56

front- red-chip on bottom of nut. nut had a flat slant in it

as far as i know nothing has ever been changed on the truck (according to my grand father who bought it brand new)

You've approached the problem from the wrong angle. Literally.

You don't need to get down on the ground.

Instead read this.

I'm fairly certain that's the VSV for the PAIR. Important? Depends, do you need to have the emissions checked by DEQ to register the vehicle legally? If not then no. Go ahead and block it off.
