On my 1994 pickup there are a set of sandwiched brackets that go around the leaf springs where the ubolts are. Does anyone know if these are necessary or if I can remove them when adding ome springs? The have thin rubber inserts in them.

 

You can. But you won't be able to use the bumpstops. The bumpstops can't be seperated from the upper bracket. They're one piece. The term necessary only applies if you consider bumpstops necessary. Most you will tell you yes, they're necessary. And they're certainly necessary to prevent damage if you bottom out the suspension.

You could probably cut them off of the bumpstops. And just reuse the bumpstops. But I'm wondering why you want to get rid of the brackets in the first place. Is there a fitment issue?

Unless they've been previously removed/cut off of the brackets, your terminology is flawed. The word rest implies they are seperate from the brackets. I'm telling you with authority that is not the case.

Thanks for the pic. I wouldn't be able to understand what you meant by removing what to clear the e brake cable without it. I see you mean the springs. And not the brackets or the bumpstops. Unless that's not what you mean. In which case good luck with that. Won't do a lick of good.

 

I have removed mu springs for add a leafs, omes, and new u bolts 4 times, I am telling you that the lower bump stops absolutely are not attatched to the bracked just below the top of the u bolts. I will loose 1/4" of lift by removing the brackets, which as you can see, no longer even meet each other in the middle.

 

Its the lower braket that I would remove anyways.

 

Yeah...well I'm about to prove you wrong. If you think that's how they were originally. Because it's not. The bumpstop, bracket, and rubber pad are all one piece. Bumpstop/bracket/rubber pad = 1 unit. And they never did meet in the middle either. But that's besides the point. Will removing them solve the cable issue? Maybe. I'll give you that much.

BTW, are you aware there's supposed to be galvanized steel plates below those too?

The galvanized plates are still there as is the rubber. The stock springs did allow these plates to meet, you can still see where the tab folded over in the picture above. I bought this stock from original owner. The bump stop fits over a 1/2" tube keeping it in place. Check parts 14 and 15

 

Maybe in some cases they do meet. But on the stock springs I pulled at a junkyard, which were off a 92 IIRC, they didn't. Close, but not quite. But like I said, besides the point. Not going to bother proving that. And I realize they are seperate part numbers. But it makes no sense why. Because they aren't IRL. Or maybe just not in all cases evidently, or if you can prove yours were seperate from the factory. Which I'm prepared to believe if you'd show me. Not so much if you don't. Sorry.





You'd have to grind/cut that lip off to remove the bumpstop.

 

Strange, well in any case, maybe there is a hard poly I could just jb onto my spring where the cable runs. Im just going yo leave my pinion angle alone, with the camper on it gives no vibes. Minimal on accel when camper is off. Ill check my angles again in a week.
