turbo...

sorry guys. i did use the search but couldnt find n e thing that would give me a straight answer and the only vehicles that where turbo'd where 22r's and re's. i would love to turbo my 3.0 so that maybe i can get something out of it. is it worth it? does it give you any more power? and if so is it noticeable? o and will this cause problems, for example blown headgaskets.

x2 on the swap. if you turbo the 3.0 you will be pushing the stock motor harder than its capable of handling, and likely encounter problems

seems that the weakest part of a 3vze (3.0 v6) is the head gasket... so ...considering that ... adding a turbo (or even supercharger) will only hasten its failure.

you can slap a turbo on anything, but not every motor will take it so lightly... considering the 3.0 already is known to have HG issues, I think that would be your weak point; but I guess if you could find a good high quality one, and maybe have some lower compression postons custom made, and posaibly a custom cam cut, then it may work out then. But by that time, you'd be over the cost of SC 3.4 swap, lol

I seen a turbo'ed 3cyl Metro once... the turbo setup was twice the price of the motor alone, and it only made like 110hp, lol

That and the added compression would only wear on the lower end bearings a lot faster

find the exhaust manifold for a 22rte, or have one built... bolt the turbo up... route the intake accordingly.
oh... 22r? so, would that be blow through or draw through?

oh ye of little faith. you can turbo the carb'd engine. it just takes some work.
blow through
air filter > turbo > carb > intake
or
draw through
air filter > carb > turbo > intake.

I had a turbo VW bug, ran low 11s in the 1/4. One big holley carb, draw through.

To turbo a V6 you need a twin turbo set up or one hell on a custom exhaust to make it work. Not to mention bullet proof bottom end and no previous HG issues. Not worth it, as mentioned. SC 3.4

okay, i know that there is a thread on here somewhere, prolly just burried, but go over to pirate4x4.com and do a search for 3.0 buick turbo...
theres a full writeup of a guy who put a buick grand national turbo onto his 3.0 and ran 15 psi on the stock motor... no internals and a toyota headgasket... and he had no problems with it as a daily driver...

see personally, I'd just swap in the Buik motor before I went that far... I KNOW that's been done; I seen it myself...

For how long? The first 1k miles?

You got to have the right plumbing though. If the GN exhaust is relatively similar to what toy 3.0 has then that makes sense that it would work. You have to have equal pressure to the turbo from of all exhaust ports to optimize performance. 3 cylinders on each side to 1 turbo, you can see how that could get tricky. Thats why typical inline 6s are turboed not V motors unless its a twin turbo setup. Not to mention the space under the hood is limited on the 2nd gen, 3 slow. Sounds like one hell of a science project.

To the OP, You can turbo this engine. Just keep the boost relatively low (6-8 pounds). Toyota found the problem with the headgaskets, and should have fixed it when the engine was rebuilt. IIRC, it was a torque calculation error.

Anyways, low boost will help you get more power and won't wear on the engine too much.

I just want to see where you would fit turbo and all the plumbing.

I'd have to look but off the top of my head, mount the headers backwards so they point forward and mount the turbo in front of the engine.
