truck wont run--video of it

If the truck is cold, it will run for a few seconds then dies. If i hit the gas it dies instantly. If i keep restarting it, allowing it to warm up a bit, it runs barely if i plug the fuel return line at the gas tank. When it runs like this, the truck has no power-- won't move in first gear.

I can't figure this out. New fuel pump, intank and main fuel filters, spark plugs, cap, rotor, replaced with a known good fpr & afm. Truck does this in 2wd or 4wd. I need some serious help. It ran pretty good until all of this mess. Was driving home, and it developed a miss. Then it started running low on power. After I parked it it never ran right again.

Truck cold:

Truck warm:

Any help, even if it's a shot in the dark would be appreciated.

Thanks, Sam

v6 or 4cyl? Carbed or Injected?

timing maybe? Make sure all spark wires are going to the correct cylinders?

is the firing order right check that first. i would also do a compression test for starters.

sounds like NONE of your injectors are working except for your cold-start injector. All of the injectors are wired together, and they all fire at the same time. Theoretically you should have to check only two wires. Check the grounds on the injectors.

How do I check for the pulsing/firing of the fuel injectors? That is what I am suspecting at this point. I have checked both grounds ( intake and drivers side)

I know I have gas because I added 5 gallons just to be sure i wasn't missing the obvious. As for compression test, i will do that but it doesn't fit with the truck running better when i plug the fuel return line.

Thanks, keep the suggestions coming.

i missed that part i would think if its running better with the return line plugged, maybe its not getting enough fuel pressure. what kind of pump did you use? can you jump the Fp and B+ in the diagnostic port and see if it runs any better?

I had similar symptoms when my AFM was stuck closed at about 2/3 -- just stick your hand in there and make sure that the flap moves freely ---

wont run

I'm with Tom and Dudebud on this...sounds like lack of fuel... I would be testing that fuel pump pressure before going any further.

Well fuel pressure is in spec. ( 40 psi) If the fuel return line is plugged fuel pressure jumps to 70. I think i have a problem with th einjectors not wanting to fire. I am going to search out a wiring diagram to see what trigges the injectors to pulse.

Update

Ok, here is an update. I get 12 V at the fuel injectors with the key on. There is plenty of gas( despite what the gauge is saying-i added 5 gallons just to be sure).
Fuel pressure: 40's when running, jumps to 70's when i plug the fuel return line. New pump, filters, fuel pressure regulator and afm.

Compression was 160-170 on all 4 cylinders

Vacuum: when the truck runs is about 20 @2000 rpm(estimating rpm) but as soon as i hit the gas the vacuum drops to 0.

Would a bad ignitor do this? Thanks for all the help, but i am still not sure what is going on/

I have looked at every hose imagineable- i have even pulled the first part of the intake off to make sure every vacuum hose is in good shape. I boubt i have a vacuum leak because my vacuum meter read 20 inches when it runs rough and it pull 5 to 10 when cranking.

Worth a try if you could borrow a buddy's ignitor and/or coil to see. Not sure if the FSM has a meter test for both coil and ignitor or not.

Looks like you covered all the fuel issures, unless an injector is not firing.

Pulled a code--tracked it down to injectors not firing

OK, i was finally able to get a code. It looks like 14, but it could be a 1 and a 4 seperately. I could find that code 14 is either ecm or ignitor. When i tried to pull a code at the beginning i got nothing.

As it stands, i have power to the fuel injectors but i could not feel or hear them pulse. When i disconnect the cold start valve the truck wont even stumble or start. Would a bad ignitor cause these symptoms? I know i have good grounds with no voltage drops. Do you guys recommend i replace both the coil and ignitor together or just the ignitor? I know these ignitors rarely go bad but i can't think of why else my injectors are not pulsing.

Thanks, Sam
