and I bet the CEL light comes on because of the lean condition from the vacuum leak caused by the EGR passage not being blocked.

i didnt take it off the guy i got the engine removed it cause he was dumb, and the egr and pair systems were destroyed when my old engine fell off a truck. the CEL only comes on after i let it run for a bit then it pops on for like 1 second then the engine sputters and dies lol. oh and i might have solved the problem, ok i had noticed that the cold start timing sensor was broken off so i replaced that and now the cold start is working and i think that is what is keeping my engine running but only to limited RPMs and the colod start stops firing when the engine warms up, another thing is that toyota changed the conections on the injectors in 1988 and my motor is a 1987 and my harness is 1990 so they arnt getting a good connections so the injectors arnt fireing so im going to get my old fuek rail and injectors and put them on my new engine. does anyone else agree??

cold start system only works while the engine is cranking, not when running.

toyota changed the connectors on the injectors so you don't use the wrong injectors with the ECU. There are different types of injectors- peak and hold, saturated, pintle and disc, and various injectors are not compatible with other systems.
