my truck sometimes has a problem when i try to drive off when the engine is cold after idling for like 30 secs. i floor it and the truck responds like it has no power, then the engine dies. should see me in the mornings if i dont wait like 5 mins for truck to warm up, i stall like 4 times in a row. but when the engine is warm the truck hauls ass. i havent had that kind of problem in most of the vehicles i drove.

Does the engine idle higher when cold than when warm?
Have you checked for vacuum leaks or cracks in the intake duct?
Is your timing set correctly?

Mine has ALWAYS done the same thing.

no vacuum leaks that i know of.
timing is set to 12 degrees BTDC, bumped from 10 Degrees which is recommend

the engine runs at 1500 rpm cold and when i try to drive off at like 1300 rpm i stall so many times its not even funny. my neighbors probably make fun of me lol. i think it does this because the engine doesnt have that much power. in my old truck i just started it and drove off when it was cold. i probably couldnt feel the difference of power cold / hot because it had over 100 hp more than the yota.

It sounds like you're running lean when cold.
So start with making sure the intake duct and boots are good, check the coolant temp sensor operation, and check that the air flow meter moves freely and tests according to the procedure in the service manual.

How cold is cold where you're at?
Is it truly a loss of power or does it feel more like a lag or drag of some sort?

When It got to -50F here (too tired to convert it to C ) the differential fluid oil was getting really think (duh) and lagging the crap out of the truck when I first started going. Later i found out that my transmission heater wasn't plugged in, so I think the tranny fluid was cold as well...( I thought the tranny heater plug was the block heater plug, they went in the same direction but i never followed them to their exact source)

If you fuel injected then you have some issues, EFI's can start and go.

But if you are carb then get used to it, You have to always have to warm up a carb'd motor in the winter. No way around it unless your ready for your EFI swap

mine does that same thing and my timing is set to 5* BTDC... i just chalk it up to another 3.0 thing...

Your cold start injector is probebly still running and you are flooring it thus propebly flooding it. Disconnect your cold start injector and see if that does anything. This is just a thought.

I have the same problem as him, but I think it is because the cold start injector ISN'T working. I have a new(er) injector and new(er) water temp sensor going in on saturday, we'll see if that fixes it.

Just currious as to why you would start up a cold engine & floor it? That's not a good idea. It's OK to start it & drive it gently until it warms up but never floor it.

Yea I have the same thing going on with my 88 3.0, I need to wait like 5 minutes before i can drive it. I will go ahead and check for any leaks. I thought this was normal . I will also check the thermostat.
