trouble finding specific bearing

Recently, I've been getting a squeaking noise from under my hood- and I ignored it for a few weeks but it finally got so bad that I decided to take a look. From the looks (and sounds) of it, I've diagnosed it as a bad bearing in my power steering pump. This is where my question comes in: I've visited several stores, and they are all quoting me like $150 for a new bearing for the pump plus a $50 core. I asked if that was for the whole pump, and they said no. This made me curious, as it seems a bit steep for a bearing...

Does anyone know if that is likely to be just the bearing unit, or if I can even just replace the bearing, or if I'll have to replace the whole pump.

If swapping out that bearing is a possibility, does anyone know what size/ part number it is so that I can order it ASAP. This noise has now officially graduated from obnoxious, to potentially dangerous, as I can actually see the pulley jostling around on its axis.

Thanks a lot!

WHat does a new pump cost? Junk yard? If you can read the bearing numbers you could call a bearing distributor. Have a look at the bearing in the strore that wants 150 bucks write down the number and call IBT or FAFNIR or Motion Industries.

You may be able to remove the pulley from your pump and replace only the pulley rather than the entire pump.

If this is a PS pump that would be on a 3VZE...

Ive gotten 2 rebuilt PS pumps from advance. $75 or something like that with like a $30 core or something.

takeing the pully of the above pump leaves you with a piece of tin in your hand, and a shaft on the PS pump. AFAIK you would have to compleately tear down the pump to pull the bearing off the shaft of the pump.

just replace the whole damn thing (IMHO)

(if infact thats your problem)

Might want to verify the source of the noise by taking of the PS belt.

Drive it for a short disatnce if need be. If noise goes away, you have your problem.

And I would agree... just replace the entire unit.
