i just got my new rancho rs5000 shocks today and i cant get the rubber boot that came with it on, the rubber just doesnt seem like it can stretch enough to make it, anyone have any tricks they use to get them on?

All the rancho shocks I had were a pain to get the boots on,not sure wha they have goin on. I just bought some procomp shocks and the boots went right on. Dawn or dish soap will make them slicker if your having the problems i used to have, its been awhile since i fooled with rancho shocks. They always semed to ride rough

i used pliers and just had to work them down one side at a time. took about 15 mins per shock and i was warn out after all 4

X2, a little soapy water should do the trick.

i used WD-40. worked like a charm, but still not as easy as it should be to put on.

Don't put them on. Shock boots are ugly as all hell, and when water gets inside it tends to stay inside.

If the shock is mounted upside down (rod on top) the boot should not be removed....rocks can get in the top of the seal destroying it...

If the shock is mounted right side up (rod on bottom) the boot should be removed because water will sit inside and rust and pit the rod


at least thats my logic behind it....FWIW
