transfercase options

1988 4runner V6 Auto:
Having transfercase problems.
4high - starting to slip
4low - pretty much no good slips bad

I recently had the tranny seals replaced and engine overhauled. Is there a way to reinstall the tranny incorrectly. Please excuse my ignorance I am new to this car and to the do it yourself philosophy, but I am trying to learn. Also If anyone can give me a explanation of how the engine tranny and transfercase interact I would much appretiate it.

Now for the matter at hand could someone please tell me what transfer cases will work with my year and mode, for example will a newer model work from say a 1995.

Maybe I don't understand what you're saying, but there is no way for your transfercase to "slip." If anything is slipping, it is your transmission.
