Easiest way to fill IMO is pull the shifter OR COVER PLATE and fill it until it dribbles out the fill plug.

Look on the back of the case where the drive shaft comes out. at about 3 oclock you see a 24mm bolt head. remove and fill to it either just starts to run out, or you can stick your little finger in and it gets on the end of your finger.

go to autozone and get a cheap pump for the gallon size jug of oil. puts out about an oz on each pump.

This fills the transmission, but not the transfer, right?

What other pumps can you use for filling the transmissiont-case? Can you use a gasoline siphon hand pump?

I always use a hand pump that screws on the top of the gear oil bottle. You can find them at pretty much any marine store. Mine has been around for several years with no signs of leaking/breaking. Works great every time.

And if he has a forward shifting case?

Best way to be sure is to remove the fill plug (about 1/2 was up the Tcase, should be a 24mm socket) and fill until fluid comes out.

All gear driven tcases have a top cover plate or shifters whether or not the tranny accepts top or forward shift tcases.
