trans removal question

ok so I'm trying to replace the clutch on my 91 runner 22re 4x4. and I'm lowering the trans out but it's getting caught on the transfer case shift lever in back and the spline in front. do i take the transfer case shift lever off (how) or is there something I'm missing

Thanks

Yes, take the shift lever out. There is a C-clip that holds it in place, lift up the boot and you'll see it. Going back on you have to compress the spring a little to get it back on. As soon as you take out the shifter stuff a clean rag into the hole to keep you from dropping anything into the t-case.

That or you just got the shifter tip into the wrong slot (hole). I ususally test it out before putting the clip back on.
