toyota speedometer mechanical to electronic conversion

I have a 1989 Supra. I swapped out my 7MGTE for a 1JZGTE from a Toyota Chaser. The Supra has a mechanical speedo cable and the trans on the Chaser has an electronic hookup on the it. I need some sort of a converter. Does anyone know of one? Redline Guage Works sells a converter for like $350. It keeps it mechanical but it has a gps tracking unit to regulate the speed on the speedometer. I was hoping to find something a little cheaper. Help me out here please.

Why can't you just swap out the electronic sender for the mechanical one, screw the cable back in and go???
