Toyota Quality?

Hey, that reminds me, my parents had a Dodge colt with the mitsubishi engine, and the engine was toast after only 80000 miles. However, one of my friends has the same car with 134000 miles, and it is only running on 3 cylinders and still going strong

I think its more of a creaking than a grinding lol. Ill take a look at that in class tommorow. I also know that the ball joints are beyond the point that they should have been replaced a very long time ago, but I just ordered my lift kit and am going to do it all at once.
As for the discount, for over the counter parts, it usually works out to about 50% off, but not very many people end up paying the full price. I think my gas tank was listed as $400-$450, and i got it for around $250, but it also varies on what I am buying

I miss the power of my beloved 78, 81, and 73 camaro's..... but my yota's have need far less work, even with double/triple the mileage

my crank shaft isn't a thousandth under spec after 200,000+ miles and i'm only rebuilting it because i want to, it was running puuurfect.
i like how i can squeez 33 inch tires with only a 1 to 2 inch lift and my friends with thier jeeps have to get at least a 3 inch lift to fit 31's. our trucks make 31's look small
that's usally the thing i rub in my friends faces
i think there is even people runnin 33's stock
and there was one i saw on here guy runnin 35's stock with sr5 rims
i have about 2 inches longer wheelbase than a 1990 jeep cherokee
and i like all the options for customization
like desert racing for example you can do a few choice things and make your truck pretty desert worthy. i think it would take more money to make a ford or chevy stand up a gainst a toyota in the desert or off road like it's been said
to me toyota and reliability go hand and hand ask any openminded mechanic but i chose my truck for the offroad factor by far
yep
i need to go to sleep

Here's a testimony to quality.....
1992 4x4 22re truck.
189,000 miles
1 owner (ME!)
Repairs.....
Blown head gasket at about 130,000 miles(probably inferior repair since it blew again at 189,000 miles)
new u-joint
new alternator
new starter
new radiator w/ 1st head gasket repair
2 sets of front brakes (northeast pennsylvania with salt and ice causes the calipers to stick)
NOT REPAIRED (because it's not broken)>>>>
no transmission issues (auto transmission)
NO electrical issues
NO OTHER REPAIRS.
K&N Filtercharger / 31-10.5 / 15 tires / pushbar (ie deerslayer bar)
Anyone who questions what quality goes into these vehicles should understand that this is my daily driver, has been 4-wheeled hard and scary and always drove like I was going to church after that.
Always started on the 1st try, always plowed through snow and ice and the hottest weather without hesitation.
NEVER will get rid of it !!!
Would love to add a 1981 to 1989 4runner to my fleet (92 truck and 2006 4runner).
****as I saw in the above picture I believe that was probably referencing the un-Godly noise that is made when turning either way to the max....I just occasionally put white litjium grease on the "steering stops" (as I call them...I'm sure there's a technical name for them) and the noise stops (metal against metal).
So PLEASE>>>>>if you want to question the quality or reliabilty of a TOYOTA, read the above testimony and understand that this is just one of many, many , many stories that are similar.

Off the subject.....and since I'm new here...
I live in Northeast Pennsylvania.....anybody else local???(wilkes-barre area)
Does anyone know of any 44 clubs locally......not so much to beat my truck but to find out who knows how to do quality repairs......mainly headgasket repair.
Who would you recommend?? It has to be someone you would either trust your's to or someone you know does 22re repair to the point that they are the BEST option for Me. My local arage guy made 2 recommendations to me and I have yet to question them and I certainly DO NOT intend on taking this to a TOYOTA dealer unless all else fails and I have to resort to that.
I figure that guys in a 4x4 club are the best resource for this information.
thanks

To the op, my 27 year old yota has less rattles then a 1 year old ranger 4x4 I used to own. also, EVERYTHING, down to the seat belt warning buzzer, works on my old truck.
out.
out.

I like them cuss there light and easy to work on. All new cars/trucks seem like POS. I like the late 80`s early 90`s as far as trucks go cuss of there design. Nissans had torjin(SP?) bars. 22re is a tank engin and IMO Toyota has most of its rep cuss that engin is known to go for ever. Just my 2cents so far thoe.

They say that many Ford vehicles have surpassed the Toyota standard of quality as has the Chevrolet Malibu.
I think that Toyota produced a far better vehicle years ago as compared to today.

[B][B]Did you hear that on a Malibu commercial? That probably looks at the number of repairs in the first year or something. Hypothetically, lets say a Corolla maybe had a bad serp belt and a headlight went out. The Malibu needed a whole new engine. One could say the Toyota needed twice as many repairs in the first year as the Malibu.

I love the hell out of my truck but it has required more repairs than my 5 Corvettes, 2 Syclones, Typhoon and Viper combined. It has 144,000 and 1600 on the motor build but for some reason it just cant go without something needing repair every 2 weeks. I still have to figure out why it wont run with the lights on.

I think thats called a lemon... As it seems to be the exception here, to most of the peoples understanding.
On a side note...why would anyone ever need 5 Corvettes?

probebly drives the Toy and all the others sit in the garage. That is why you have to fix stuff. Corvette = trailer queen. In 92 the Toyota Supra was faster then a Vette.

I've had SCCA cars that were economy cars to start out with that ended lapping vettes with as little as 8g's invested in em after the initial purchase. That includes something as supposedly lowly as a 84 VW Rabbit.
It almost hurts to say too, as my old man raised me spinning wrenches on Malibu's, Chevelles, Nova's, Camaro's and Buicks. And for the longest time thats all i would own or drive.
