I'm new on this forum, and was wondering what the ups and downs of the two trucks are. I am most likely selling my 94 Pickup. I wanted to get some information to help me make my decision on my next truck.

get am ext cab truck..put a camper shell on the back of it...call it good..then its like a really big 4 runner rite?..haha..lol.except the passengers in the back would be fairly uncomfortable..its all personal choice..i chose a truck because i do more hauling and i dont like SUV's...some ppl haul more ppl than they do other things..so they get 4runners..its all about personal choice..i believe the trucks handle better and are lighter..but thats about it in differences

If you plan on having passengers but want a truck get a 1st gen 4Runner!

Personally I like extended cab pickups better, but I always have friends and don't want to force people to stuff themselves back in to that uncomfortable little spot.

Well lets think about this.. (it has been covered before btw..)

The 4runner has more room for PEOPLE..
The truck has more room for hauling stuff.

The 4runner is more top heavy that the truck.
but your stuff is always locked and dry.

The truck (minus a camper) Your stuff is in teh bed, open to the elements. ANd there is not a lot of room for people


I have a 2nd gen 4runner and its nice.. When camping you just throw the rear seats down and sleep inside the truck.. I personally wish i would have gotten a ext cab 2nd or 3rd gen pickup though...

i personally like the 1st gen 4runner since you can take the top off in the summer, also put a soft top on, and it looks cool. i usually have others with me so the extra seats are nice. i love the pickups too you can toss all your crap in, strap it down and go. It all depends on what you do when your wheelin.

Wish I'd never sold my 2nd gen pickup....The new ones a crap compared to the older ones....If anyone is selling a 2nd gen SR5 pickup in excellent condition, shoot me an email...I'd buy it in a hearbeat

And when saying the 4Runner is top heavy... if you're going to compare them that way, one should compare the 4Runner with a comparably equipped truck with a good shell... then they're about equal... until you consider 2nd gen 4Runners use coil springs in the rear and the trucks have leaf springs.

for coolness factor, go 1st gen 4Runner. but then, I'm biased... I have a 91 xtra cab truck and my runner so no need to choose.

But what i was trying to say is factory, the 4runner has more weight up top than the truck.

Better for people carrying, IMO better for winter camping

All depends on what you want to do with it. I bought a truck to begin with and have wheeled it, camped in it (too cold in the back end even with a camper), taken it fishing, hauled piles of firewood out of areas that most folks can't even get into etc. The only thing I don't like is the fact that I can't haul more than my self and my puppy when I go. He sits in the front seat.

Now I have a 4runner and I can do all of the things that I could with the truck (yes even haul firewood if I don't care about wood chips in the carpet) the only differences are that I can haul a friend or two with me and the dog, I can sleep in the back and it's a hell of a lot warmer than the truck ever was, etc.

Something else I noticed was that the 4runner is more fun off road than the truck was. It's shorter and to me it seems like I can get into tighter spots with it.

In the end though it's all up to you and what you want to do with it.

I have a pickup, which is essential for me so that I can haul my dirt bike around, but there are times when I wished I had a 4runner. My conclusion...you should get both

The thing I hate about my truck is that it doesn't have the extended cab. Although that extra space given by the extended cab is small, it becomes really useful just to throw random stuff back there. My girlfriend isn't too happy when we go to the grocery store and she rides back with all the groceries on her lap and between her feet Also, the extended cab lets you recline your chair.

I love having a pickup. My girlfriend has a 95 4runner so I get to drive both

The 4runner is great for people and hauling stuff. Also fantastic for campin, those rear coils make service roads an absolute dream to drive on!

Good example:

On nice winter days, we throw our gear in the bed of my buddy's tacoma and head up to the ski resorts......

We take my 4runner on snowy days to keeps the girls (ski's and snowboards) warm and dry.
