I can't imagine it would be much worse than a 3VZE towing #3500...last time I did that, I got about 10 mpg @ 50 mph in 4th gear...

 

I bet the people on the highway give you some weird looks.

I always got weird looks when my bike refused to go faster than 45 on the freeway.

 

its worth a shot. AAA+ gets you 200 miles or something.
tell em its wrecked, remove the plates and show the front (i did this ) the driver gave me a hard time when he got there about priority for 'emergencies' and i had told the dispatcher it was a non-emergency / non-running vehicle. after complaining he hooked and towed it to where i wanted.
they get paid either way, so dont let em hassle you about it!

 

My 91 with the 3.0 and manual towed well over its rated capacity quite well. The most I ever towed was a friends camper when his truck broke on the trails and had to limp home. The camper was 6500lbs and although I never was able to see 5th gear the truck handled it fairly well (it had one braking axle). My max speed was 60mph but that was about as fast as my friends J10 could handle with his bent driveshaft (we straightened it as much as possible). Also I have towed several vehicles on an 18ft trailer, the heaviest was a kids 85 Camero (my sons friend's car). While top end suffered the truck handled the loads very well.

Edit The above was when I still had the 31's equipped so my towing now rather stinks at speed

Although it wasn't a very long distance the heaviest load I have ever pulled with the Toy was my aforementioned friends J10 and my wifes Grand Cherokee when the both broke on the trail (see any similarities?). I had to drag both of them out at the same time about 1.5 miles to the end of the trail.

I flat towed an XJ with like 10" lift and 35's mmmm 300? miles? no probs.

You should be able to handle a taco on a 2 wheel dolly.

Nope you probably won't. I'm a dispatcher for CAA/AAA in BC, and our club would not cover this. If the vehicle was registered in your name, you were the one that wrecked it, and it was going to a shop to be repaired we might. If it has no plates or registration and was purchased in-operable...no way. This is our club though, each province/state has slightly different rules, but from my experience we have very lax rules compared to most US AAA clubs...so they'd probably tell you to pound sand. It's worth a try though If you've been a member for a long time (10+ years) the rules may have a little more flex if you play your cards right.

with my 22re auto ive tow'n a 18 ft pontoon boat.
the bumpstops touched and the tranny kept kickin from low to high gear but i got it there as fast as the ford v6 did ^-^
