Took me and a buddy over an hour to take off those damn Tow hooks. Mine was rusted to hell and I had to take it off to install the new skidplate. Know I have to install them again because using random points on the frame as a makeshift towhook is getting old fast..

No biggy partner. I'll forgive you. The governator might not, but I will!

um... i thought that they were talking about a torch... not a cigarette lighter...

My only flame source around here is a lighter until we unpack everything. We have a torch somewhere.

Grrrr. Even with the cheater bar it's not budging. I swear it's welded or something. I'm not THAT much of a weakling. I'm about to throw out my back or something straining it so hard trying to get this sucker off.

How big of a cheater bar you using? Go to your local parts store, pick up a cheap 18" 1/2" drive breaker bar. Then go to your local home depot or lowe's or what have you, and pick yourself up a chain link fence post. You now have a 4' cheater bar to throw ontop of that 18" breaker bar you just bought.

Oh and we always called the torch the green wrench cuz the bottles are green.

If all else fails you could always grind the deads of the bolts and pry the hooks of, then worry about getting the rest of the bolt off.

The cheater bar I was a chain link fence post. At least it looks like one. Same thickness, same grade of metal only it was cut short to about 14" . No budge. I swear this thing is welded. I can see what looks like solder melding the bolt to the tow hook base. I'm thinking about just drilling out the bolts and buying new ones. It would be the same cost as if I went to the local garage and had them take them off.

nah...like was said above.

pb blaster, hit it with a hammer, pb blaster (repeat, repeat, repeat)

then torch it till its extremely hot, and then get the breaker bar, and a sledge, and give her a few good blows.

once it gets moving its much easier from there

Can pb blaster be substituted for wd-40? PB blaster can't be found around here.

Pb blaster is better, but wd40 is better than nothing.

Most autostore places (Checker, Advance, Autozone, etc) carry Blaster around here, but if they don't, look for "penetrating oil" - Deep Creep, Kroil, Thrust - there's a bunch of different kinds.

yea, cigarette lighter might hurt you hand but a frozen bolt will laugh. AT LEAST Mapp gas and if it's that frozen, acetylene is closer. Along with Igor, 4 ft cheater, and use your legs if you can, they're much stronger.

HAHA, I had my feet on the tire and front suspension as my ass was hovering above the ground as I was pushing with my legs to get this thing loose. This sucker is a monster.

When I did my pinion seals, to get my front pinion nut off, I had my dad push the brakes down while I wrenched on it. I had my legs against the front tires and did a leg press....but the truck still rolled forward. My dad had to start the truck w/ me under to get the power assist helping him, then I got it loose.

Yeah I tried to get them loose on my beasty... one came loose with a "little" effort [and a 2' breaker bar]... the other one started to come loose then the razz a frazin welded nut came loose... now I got to lift the rad a bit to get that access cover off and figure out a way to get a new nut in... all of which has put a crimp in what I was working on... 6mos ago...

I think I'm going to just drill out the bolts. I can spend $3 on some PB-blaster and $30 on a propane torch, or I can just drill out the bolts and go to Ace hardware for replacements for $5 or $6.
