where is the best place to get some bolt on tow hooks or d ring shackles...and also where can these bolt on to the front and rear of my rig...btw rig still has factory bumpers front and rear and no body lift... just lacking any sort of tow hooks on the front and its starting to become a problem...

 

I don't know, but I saw a really nice hitch receiver that takes a large D-Ring. The design appeared to be much safer and solid than the regular hook type hitches. But that is probably the best (and cheapest?) way to mount some tow points on the rear of the vehicle, provided you have a tow hitch. You can remove it until you need it. Very convenient.

 

your truck should have a tow hook on the front already....if not....can i ask what happened?

I second the receiver shackle hanger thingy.....you never know when you'll have to let a buddy use it to get his rig out. mine was like $40 i think

 

ive looked and cannot find a tow hook on the front of the truck anywhere..im the second owner but i know the man i bought the truck from and there was no damage ever incurred to the truck...so where should this tow hook be at?

 

LOL! The tow hook is gone! Anyway, where did you get your receiver shackle? I saw a nice one that allegedly came from Warn, but I couldn't find it on their website.

 

4x4 connection has both the receiver hitch shackle things and the replacement factory style hooks with the metal keeps for pretty cheap. Junk yard works good to. If you go this route take a cheater bar to get these bolts out because they will be very tight.

 

You should have one hook and then a tie-down bracket on the front, go to Toyota and buy another tow hook for the front and then get the WARN receiver shackle. I wouldn't pay more than 40 bucks shipped, Cabela's is a good place to go, thats where I got mine.

I am pretty sure these are the right bolt spacing. You would just need some metric bolts. Very cheap!

 

Yeah I bet those would work, you could go out and measure your spacing and then give them a call, great guys to work with, and see if they match up.

Be sure to get all grade 8 hardware.

I am gonna remove the rec'r hitch on mine and put 2 of these on. I scrape the hell out of that hitch and really need the clearance out the back.

 

If I were gonna do that I would get the shackle hangers from Sonoran Steel and put them on back...highest quality and lets you use a 3/4 shackle.

If I were to remove my hitch thats what I would do but I haul a trailer too much to do that so...

I have these hooks and the backing plates too. The backing plates really improve the real world performance to minimize damage to the mount.
I have purchased a lot of equipment from these guys, they are not cheap but the products they sell are by and large, the very best of the best. At the very least, look at the product and get ideas to look for a less expensive option or someone selling the same thing for less $$$.

A great idea but just to protect those lacking in winching experience/recovery experience-- be sure to consider the bumper that the shackle mounting brakets are being attached to--even a good backing plate will not keep a light-duty bumper from ripping out or clean off in some circumstances.

I plan on attaching these (already have them, ARB shackles, and the backing plates) to my front ARB bumper but I will not use them under certain circumstances when the pull will likely exceed the bumper strength.

Very true...take a few extra minutes and really plan the recovery route or anchor point before just snatching the rig out of the ditch, definitely a good idea.
