hey guys, i'm moving to South Dakota and have decided that the best way to take my toyota truck is to tow it behind my dodge truck w/ a tow bar but i'm having a hard time finding a tow bar that will bolt on, does anyone know of one????

thus far all of the tow bars I've found have required drilling and welding and I'm so tied up trying to sell my house that I don't have time to deal w/ much more than a bolt on.

it'd probably be cheaper to rent a tow-dolly than buy a tow-bar for the truck. heck, u-haul even rents car carrier trailers for fairly cheap.
but if you go the dolly or bar route, if the toyota is an automatic, you'll have to disconnect the drive shaft(s) before you pull it.

it would be a 2 1/2 hour drive each way once I got out there to return a tow dolly or trailer so I figured a tow bar would be a good solution, it's easy enough to drop the drive shaft.

u-haul rents dollies one way. you pick it up 'here' and turn it in 'there'
are you saying that gas is so expensive that it's cheaper to pay a few hundred for a tow bar than it is to pay for the dolly and to turn the dolly in?

I would rather rent a u-haul tow dolly, lie and tell them your towing a small car otherwise they wont rent one to you.

A towbar is a big nono imho...junk. Also remove the rear driveshaft when towing your toyota.

You will be fine if you find a good quality Tow bar. Look at Valley Industries.
I towed my '84 Cross Country, I just through the rear drive shaft in the bed. I had no issues with the truck after towing it 3100 miles.

I may add that if you're towing your truck with a tow bar, you're also going to have to figure out the turn signal and brake (and maybe running light) wiring or use them magnet mount lights. With the dolly (or trailer), you're covered with lighting and don't have to modify your truck (either the tow or the towed) to have legal lighting.
