Torsion key, it goes on the end of your torsion bar and keys it to the torsion mount allowing it to torque the torque bar and provides the spring action for the front ifs system...

What is your question?

Without looking I expect your going to have to pull it off the control arm also. If you can get a set of locking pliers on the bolt stub that would lock it in place so you can turn the nut on the top.

Wend the bolt broke the torshen key came up and almost took my finger off it in the bottom of my cab now the nut on top it just hanging in the hole that it goes in how do I turn the torshen key back down to get a new bolt started on to pull in back in place.

The nut will slip out the gap, out the top. Once you get the old parts out you can take the load off the spring by jacking up the frame and letting the tire hang freely.

PS, some one may have put yours together backwards. The nut goes on top, this is part of why there is a limit to how much you can crank up the torsion bar the bolt will start hitting the bottom of the cab and you can't use a shorter bolt or you can't get it started into the nut.

First, release the adjusting nut all the way. It's pretty far back, under the body, Google "adjusting IFS ride height toyota"

I hope you heal well. Spring = tension. (That one time I tried to ...) At least you have a cool wrenching story man!

With ONE hand, muahahaha, release the other end now, jack up the truck like Co_94_PU said. Then there is no weight on the torsion bar, and no "preloading".

What they said.. it’s near impossible to adjust torsion rods while they’re loaded... not sure why you would even attempt that. It’s like said you want to remove a coil springs while it’s compressed. Removal of the control arm isn’t necessary. New bolts are available from the dealer, there’s a few threads on here with part numbers.

For the record...

The frame will hold that upper wrench if you let it press against it

Following the Factory Service Manual might be a good idea.

The bolts are available from the dealer. Which one you get appears to depend on your body style.

Both..
Tried to loosen the torsion bar while loaded and the bolt snapped off. Now the spring, nut and arm are wedged against the bottom of the cab. And had a hand on the upper wrench when it happened.

Something like 900 to 1800ftlb of stored force there...
