TOB Question

I have a 87 4X4, 22R, 5spd. When I bought the truck, it had a broken timing chain, I pulled the engine and trans since it had 170k on it, rebuilt the engine and carb. I went ahead and also put in a new clutch kit. The old clutch wasn't too bad, it had about 60K on it, but the TOB was toast. OK, so I get it together, fires on the first try, runs good. BUT, for some reason, the TOB has a meltdown. I was fried and took the pressure plate with it. So I took the trans back down, put ANOTHER clutch kit in it, thinking maybe I put the TOB in backwards. I also noticed the TOB hub was a little damaged. I smoothed the rough edges on the hub, put it back together but I still am getting a high pitched squeal from the TOB. I greased both the tob and the fingers of the pressure plate, but it is still making noise. I have a new TOB hub and bearing coming, but what am I missing here? Did I use the wrong grease? It was regular axle grease.
HELP!

I'd start checking things around the throw-out bearing to see if they're within spec.

The TOB fork could be bent, putting incorrect pressure on the bearing, for example.
