Tips & Tricks- 4" bracket lift!

Alrighty! So im going to be bolting in my used 4" Procomp bracket lift into my 91 4runner in the next few weeks and i was hoping for some insight into the install and add to the database with some pics of my journey

So my plan is 4" bracket lift, 35"x12.50 on 15x8 Crager steelies, cheap shocks, some extended brake lines, hammer pinch welds, and possibly a 1" BL if it rubs too much. Anything i miss?

My only questions sofar are- what backspacing is best for 35"x12.50's? And shock lengths?

Feels so good getting close to actually having a lifted yota after 4years

i would just look up the shocks used in the 4" bracket lift and use those.

as far as backspacing goes, i'd go 3.75. ( ive had 15x8 3.75 on mine since i bought it ) i only have 33s but it should work good for 35s.

Ok 3.75 it is!

And ive been trying to find what shocks they are eith no luck. All i get is messure this and that. Would be easyer to find a part number and order away. Im thinking procomp might tell me the specs for them so i will try that.

Hey mak was it TG who made those rear brake lines or? I looked but couldnt find em on there site. Though i Found them for 30 bucks a pop on allpro's site.

send a pm to abecedarian, a member here who installed his 4" bracket lift on his rig in a motel parking lot, IIRC.....lol. He'd be able to answer all your questions and stuff. Tell him I sent you! LOL

Alright i found some part numbers on procomps site. The lift comes with Es300 series shocks so i typed in my vehical and it gave me a 4inch option and this is what i got-

Fronts- 318514

Rears- 326513

Can anyone confirm or maybe cross this part number over to another shock that they know is right?

Yeah, I did mine in a motel parking lot. I drove from Monterey, CA, to Scott's Valley (near Santa Cruz) to pick up the kit from a guy that was doing SAS, then drove back and put it on with my brother in the motel parking lot. I bought a floor jack and some jack stands, and some wrenches.
And while I was in there, replaced the lower ball joints and outer tie-rod ends. Took 2 days. I drove it to get aligned and the shop was impressed that I had the camber eye-balled to within 1 degree (I was cambered in) and the toe out about 1/4" (which balanced the camber pull), but I didn't have the steering centered- about 1/4 turn off.

So, what do you want to know?



I should've done the a-arm bushings too, but didn't.
I should've replaced the rear leafs instead of installing the blocks- I fixed that after a while with new leafs.

I need shocks too. Mine are Rancho. I'll check.

Haha man thats an awesome story! Luckly i found my used lift 15 mins from home for 300 bucks lol i think i have everything even all the drop brackets for the rear lift hich i was suprised he still had.

Those ranchos if they clear the control arm i will buy those. Do you know if the procomp ones that are supposed to come with the kit will clear ok?

My main thing is should i replace the hardware that holds the whole bracket in? Id hate for them to break or come loose . I was thinking of getting mu buddy to tack the nuts to the bracket itself just so they wont backout randomly. And if its a tack weld it can easily grinded off in case of removal right.

Oh and other than a pickle fork to get balljoints off the knuckle what other tools did you not expect untill you went for it?

The rear cross bar for these bracketlifts are trash. Get ready to fab a sturdier one.

Looked a little weak yeah. Whats a good method of strengthening it? Or what did you do to fix that.
