For a month, not much maintanence to do. Make sure the tires are properly inflated and Fill the tank with fresh gas. Everything else will be fine for a month. I park my car for this long 5 or 6 times/year and havn't ever had any problems. (ah, the wonders of military life)

Security? I would recommend disabling the alarm. It isn't going to draw the right kind of attention on a deserted campus, it doesn't stop real car theives, and it'll drain your battery.

The only time I ever had a vehicle broken into - I was at the Yacht Club Commodore's Ball on a college campus, parked on the street right in front of the fancy House used for such gatherings, under a street light no less. Freezing weather (you'd think thieves would stay home.) My 'then' girlfriend's car, with thousands in stereo and alarm stuff, best of everything, very nice rolling stereo disquised as a sports car. (RX7 turbo)

We came out to find the stereo stuff ripped off. They took the head unit, the amps, crossovers etc, all the speakers from the rear. Plus sunglasses, CDs etc.

It appears they "slim jimmed" the door, popped the hood (presumeably with the alarm going off) and cut the battery cable cleanly. Obviously not the casual thief, and it took some time to get all the stuff, not a snatch-and-run deal. Made me realise something, with the number of alarms out there, and most of them not setup well and going off so often, we tend to ignore them. The thieves know this.

Oh, and they didn't take the alarm.

Dealing with the insurance company would be another thread....

Get one of those mannequins to put in the passenger seat.

Or, I have actually seen people put basball caps on the top of one of their seats. From a distance, it looks like someone's in there. Though this probably would not help if someone really wanted to take your Runner

If you going to the Sac airport, why not just drive there, and park there?

Nice long CHAIN. run it threw all 4 rims and around the frame with a big fat lock

Chains are cheap from a hardware store, Helps for two things, A: they cant still your tires/rims, B: they can't move the truck.

Have you heard of Park and Fly ? 6 bucks a day to leave your truck at the airport,
