timing issues

timing issues
I just rebuilt the top end of my motor and the timing seems off. I have tried the distributor and that doesnt seem to quite do the job. is there a sure fire way to tell if it is the timing belt?

Just make sure you have the timing marks correct. Ie, set your mechanical timing first. Then, move on the distributor timing. Its not uncommon for someone to get the distributor in one tooth off.
With the crank at top dead center (aka 0 on the timing cover mark) your cam hash marks should be right on, and the belt will go right on as well.
