Timing help needed, 3.0

Tried a search, read the Haynes manual, nothing really seems to define the solution to my problem. When I make marks on the t-belt where they sit tdc on the cam sprockets, turn the motor over until they're lining up again, they don't really line up. Each white-out mark is one tooth to the passenger side...but the cam sprockets appear to be straight up again. Is this the answer to why the original belts are not aligned when ppl remove them? I'm only new to OHC engines btw, very proficient with pushrod motors so thinkin the sprockets in relation to the crank is more important, but maybe lemme know if the belts not the right length an causing this.
Thanks in advance, I'll check back after lunch.

Go by the marks on the sprockets, any marks you put on the belt won't line up after turning the engine. Like you noticed they'll be one tooth off each revolution. New belts come with white marks and they also don't line up after turning the engine.

The marks should line up, after 2 full rotations of the crank. When I did mine, I had to jog the belt and pullies to put a little tension on the belt, then back off and move the belt so that it would line up under load. Once I did that, then I finally saw the marks come back after 2 spins of the crank.

Ok, got it. The Haynes manual made it seem as though when you turn the motor over, a mark on the belt should line up with the mark on the cam gears the next time around. Or I was just tired, hungry, and not thinkin straight. That, and a little surprise that I got it right the first try. It's all good and I should be starting the 'Runner again tomorrow.
Y'all will love this one, everyone having to do the head gaskets an stuff, my heads had to come off 'cause the number 5 spark plug broke off flush with the head, most of the steel casing around the porcelain was already rusted through.
Anyhow, wish me luck!
