Timing cover with the head off

I did my timing chain about a year ago and I screwed up the cover and the seal between the head and the timing cover and I'm finally fed up with how much oil it leaks so I have taken the head and timing cover off and plan on putting everything back together correctly with fresh seals and a rv cam.

My question is, what order do I put it together in. Timing chain then cover then head or head then timing cover?

Is the unit attached to the timing cover other than the water pump the oil pump? If so I took it apart and need a reference on how the gears go back together.

the oil pump is behind the crank pulley. other than the water pump i don't remember anything else being attached to the timing cover aside from the bracketry for the p/s pump and the alternator.

yup, its goes back pretty easy.. one gear goes inside the other one.
spin it around to make sure it spins smoothly.

be especially careful with the seal - i HIGHLY suggest getting a high quality speedi-sleeve. well worth every penny! the cheap ones that come with the fel-pro gasket kit are horrible...good luck.

From: Cincinnati, Ohio - Amelia is the exact place. There is no one else on this site from where I am. Seems like everyone is from Cali or Washington. I guess I need to move.

Make sure you can see the little arrows on the gears of the oil pump. They dont have to be lined up, just make sure you can see them. That's a message from Ted at engbldr.com. He said they are directional. If you can see them you have them in the oil pump housing correctly.

you only need a speedisleeve if it is a groove in it right?

speedy sleeve is a special sleeve that slips over the crankshaft and a different oil seal to match the sleeve.

I don't think I quite follow. The timing cover has a seal that goes around the crank shaft and then the oil pump case has a O-ring that seals it to the timing cover case

also I put the head gasket shiny side down and the felpro side up, without looking at the water passages. Does any one know if that's correct?

Just for future reference if someone searches this, shinny side down is correct.
