Exclamation Timing Chain

You guys here are definatly ALOT of help, so would you tech's like to break down the process in general of replacing my timing chain? How long am I looking to spend (being a noobie and a first timer)?

87 22r 112k miles

To get started download the FSM from a link you can find on here and study the timing chain section. I think I almost had the headgasket section memorized by the time I started work on mine.

drain coolant drain oil, remove rad, fan belts, remove valve cover 4 12mm, remove crank pulley, remove timing cover theres one sick bolt under the oil puddle way up in front of the head, clean up everything, unbolt the oil pressure chain tighter, take screw driver in hole on cam unbolt cam gear, remove chain gides, remove crank gear, then do the same backwards and you should be done



i think that about summs it up for ya hope it helps you out some

Tempted to give it a shot myself - never done much more than suspension / brakes before and regular maintenance, but I think I can tackle this one with the amount of information available.

im gona be looking to replace mine this winter too. the question that i want to know about changing timing chains is. do you have to pull the head off to replace the chain or is pulling the oil all you need to do. because i really dont want to have to deal with the head.

it can be done without removing the head. you have to be careful of the portion of the headgasket between the head and the timing chain cover. so no prying in that area.

No, you don't have to remove the head. I spent a weekend doing mine, looks kinda like this with the head still on and timing chain cover removed.
