time for new hubs (87 4runner)

im junkyarding for a set of manual hubs so i can get rid of my broken auto hubs on my 87 4runner. im assuming (since the hubs on wabfab are good for 86-95) i can use 86-95 hubs but im probably wrong... because i usually am. any help here will be greatly appreciated. most places im looking offer at least a 30 day warranty on their parts so im not worried about buying used.


i know i need a conversion kit to switch from auto to manual, ill pick that up from wabfab. id buy his hubs too but i cant manage $250 for them right now.

I used a set off an 87 on my 93 no problems, as long as they are ifs hubs they should swap right on

I have a set here at Nix99 for $125 plus shipping, good used working units. I can also get you the conversion parts you will need, but its best to get the socket from WabFab.

yea i found 2 sets for 50 bucks at a pick in pull..

im gonna rebuild a set paint them up and put them on my hilux since i have the extra set!

Just let me warn you that if you get a "used" set of manual hubs a lot of times all the parts are NOT there. I buy tons of manual hubs and there are a lot of little things that can be missing that make them not function...the biggest being the little ball and spring, the pawl spring not seated correctly, the big spring in backwards or bent, too much grease.

If you get a set of used manual hubs buy them from someone reputable and if you go to a pick and pull make sure all the parts are there before you pay for them and take them home.

I have some tech articles on my website that show the guts and what all should be there. Nothing worse than getting a great looking set of manual hubs that are useless cause they are missing a coule little pieces.

I also really hate it when I find a set that looks like it has been beat on by an 800 lb gorilla cause the person was too impatient or ignorant to take the cone washers off properly.

Reputable manual hubs cost money, cheaper sets you roll the dice.

What conversion parts???? Unbolt the add hubs and bolt on the manuals.

Edit - oops 87 auto hubs not ADD.

for real, at this point id kill even for add. i cant believe almighty toyota would make hubs that dont work in reverse.

thanks wabbit, im sure ill be sending some money your way for parts. im a broke college kid so i have to get something cheap and rely on the warranty... im even cutting into the beer budget to work on the 4runner

If you get a set and need some spare parts for them, I do have some things as spares, but I do tend to horde them for myself later. As far as the other replacement stuff, check out the webpage for Aisin Manual Hubs here:

Buying hubs from reputable wreckers is indeed the best way to go. There is absolutely nothing wrong with used hubs, as long as you know what you are after, and make sure all the parts are there and complete.

Like Brian said, reputable hubs cost money, cheaper sets you roll the dice. The stuff we sell at Nix99 does cost more, but you get good stuff that fits right the first time, and the peace of mind knowing someone like me is pulling your order and making sire it is complete the first time.
