Throttle Position Sensor - Connector

We have an 88 4Runner. Replaced the TPS, however the connector is broken and is not getting a good solid connection. I've attached two pictures. I have three questions: 1) What is this connector called? I have been unable to locate a replacement 2) If a new connector is not an option, is there an alternantive fix? and 3) If this loose connection is not the cause of the TPS failure, any ideas as to what it could be? Someone said a vaccumm leak. (Where?)
Symtom is check engine light stays on. Code reader idicates it is the TPS, have installed 2 new ones. When the plug is connected (as good as it can be) the 4runner surges. When we remove the connector from the TPS it just runs rough. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Get a used one from some one. Then repin the plug.

If that is to hard solder a used plug cut from the wire harness with the wires left long.

Get a new one from Toyota if the still have them and repin the plug

The two you replaced were new out of the box??

Yes, both were new out of the box. Two different brands (just to see).
Will keep looking in the junk yards for a 4runner/truck. There are not alot of junked toyota trucks in this area. Thank you for your input. It is appreciated.

Your missing the spring clip that holds it on.

The plug is not that bad. It could be much better

Try contact cleaner to clean the pins.Doing both sides.

maybe a cable tie to keep it in place.

If you find a used one make sure you get the spring clip

We actually did have a cable tie holding it in place....but didn't clean the pins...and it was still surging. Will clean the pins and try it again.

Take a look at the plug and see if it has a five digit number stamped on it. If it does, preface it with 90980-xxxxx where xxxxx is stamped on the plug and you have the part number that your Toyota parts desk can likely order.

Might try www.bmotorsports.com , www.connectorsfast.com Try putting the part number into ebay or amazon and see what you come up with.

From what I read I really don`t think the OP wants to mess with repining the connector.

They are looking for a used one cut from a scrap harness with enough of the wires on to solder on easy.

bhawkin00 any luck with one behind your seat? If so, will it fit on the TPS?

Does anyone think/feel that this could be a vacuum leak?

The 91 I have had a 88 or 89 throttle body on it. Tps was for the 91. They dont interchange...the problem was throttle surging at idle and on take off. Plus it had a bunch of other issues the customer declined repairs so I bought the truck. I since rebuilt the engine and put the correct Throttle body and tps on it an the idle issue is gone. I would say your on the right track...make sure your coolant level is full.

Did this whole TPS mess start when the plug was damaged??

In your case I think you need to figure out the cause of the surging .

Just how are you getting the code perhaps you counted the flashes wrong

Just what engine are you working on??

Have you posted in the wanted section.

I hate to cut a plug off a complete harness .

Better late than never??? But I wanted to thank you all for the help. Turns out it was in wrong...go figure it only goes in "ONE" way.. Proved that theory wrong.

I've just picked up a project '88 4runner and the guy that I got it from had snipped the TPS connector. Now I need to track one down and am having a devil of a time finding one. Did you ever come across a place that sells replacements?

In case anybody reads this I found a new connector and just replaced mine this weekend from New Zealand of all places. The shipping was way more than the part but I was able to replace it without soldering if you can believe that. In fact the factory connection is NOT soldered. I will try to find the link. Found it.
