I got my truck off my buddy. 89' 22re. My buddy left the throttle position sensor unplugged because he said the truck ran better. Please give me some validity to this. Not sure if the sensor is bad or not, as before the truck stopped running it didn't seem to make a difference. Thanks

 

My favorite tech site in the world is down right now, but all you have to do is run a google search on Toyota throttle position sensor to know what it does and why it is a good thing to have functioning. It runs better because the ECU has adjusted, but overall performance does suffer. In other words, the ECU not knowing the throttle angle can only do so much. Plus, the timing is set with a functioning TPS.

 

The truck ran better with the sensor disconnected because the sensor is either not adjusted correctly or the sensor itself is bad.
