Throttle cable binding

My throttle is giving me problems and making it difficult to have precise throttle control. My issue is that the cable is binding, so at first it’s pretty hard to push in but once it gets past the rough spot it’s super easy, so to get it to move I have to push it harder but then it revs way up since I had to push hard to get past the rough spot. I know it’s the cable and am thinking it’s the way it’s routed but there isn’t many different ways to route it it’s on the bracket on top of the valve cover. I know it’s not the throttle body and it’s not the pedal assembly itself. So my question is does anyone have any tricks to get the throttle to be smooth through the whole length of travel? Maybe a certain way to route it or more or less tension on the adjustment part? Also it is a brand new throttle cable.

Replace it. New dealer cable, or from yotashop. You do not want to risk repairing it. and the "pioneer" brand that rockauto, summit, and so on sales, is a complete pile of sheet. Also....make sure your grounds fronm engine to the chassis are good. if not, it will use things, like your throttle cable, as a ground. And is typically the cause of the issue. but on a 35 year old truck......age too.

And you need to search for an "accelerator cable", A "throttle cable" is for the automatic transmission, and is also known as a "kickdown cable"
