Maybe put the seafoam treatment through one of the ports on top of the TB?

Pull it and run it through the dishwasher? I say that because that's what I'll be doing to my EGR valve soon.

Take the TPS off before you dishwash it!

You really don't need the whole intake to be clean. Only the throttle plate, throttle plate bore, and IAC ports need to be clean to allow the correct amount of air through at certain times. The black will come back very soon on the rest of the intake anyway. Its the left over gas when you shut down your engine. It kinda bakes and turns into carbon. I'd save the next can of cleaner for a few thousand miles down the road.

Try a better cleaner?

what did you use?

I use a mix of Deep Creep (seafoam in areosol) and intake Kleen.

Using a toothbrush and some rags I can get mine spotless in a few mins.

No pictures but you can just pull the intake hose off of the throttle body, spray cleaner up inside it, insert tooth brush and scrub like crazy.

I found it easier to just pull the TB off and do it that way. Of course then I saw all the crap inside the intake and almost peed.... it gets yucky in there.

Heat up the engine first- the grime will come of easier. Also, a rag on a screwdriver works well enough to clean as much as you need to.

I used silicone, clear or off white I think. It was what I had since the parts store gave me the wrong gasket and the 4runner is my only vehicle..... well you get the idea.

I'd use a new gasket.

how about this i just cleaned mine today and i'd have to say it's by far the dirtiest TB i've ever seen. It seems like with 180+k on it that it had never been done before. So whatever now the thing idles high. I've worked on herds of hondas and know that you can kind of reset the iac is this possible on my 22re?

I ended up buying a different throttle body cleaner, and used the whole can. my truck does run much better, but the idle turned all the way down is still to high. now what?

Yes. There is an idle adjustment screw on the left side of the throttle body when facing the engine.

... a rag on the end of a screwdriver- funny!
laugh:
I agree with the other above dude; it doesn't need to be spotless, just should be smooth and free swinging on the doors/plates.

As far as the idle goes, mine was a bit high after a seafoam job, but that screw turn should do the trick, on mine, it is a big sized thumbscrew, kinda sand/bone in color, and I think plastic/nylon as well.
