It really depends on what your definition of easy .

Just what area are your best skills in.

Some the mechanical work is the hard part just getting the old engine out .

Some look at the merging of wiring harnesses and just decide to not even start .

The bottom line is what is the end result desired

definition as to easy would be not having to chop the frame in half and weld it back i can weld and know how to turn wrenches and i have the motor pulled already just needed kinda a guide to which might be the most simple if that makes sense i dont want to really have to do anything crazy i have access to alot of tools and equipment as my cousin is a mechanic but hes got his own projects to do i just didnt know if maybe any of these i could keep the stock transmission or keep anything that i have on my current 22re setup hell i might consider doing a 22re turbo i just wanted something different than ive ever seen in my state you know something that just shocks and awes everyone

If you're looking to swap out the 22RE for something I'd look at swapping in a 3RZ-FE 4cyl
Should be some info about this in the Engine Swap Section.

Easiest. Still a major swap. There is nothing easier then the 3rz to replace a 22re except maybe a carbed 350chev driveline.......but wtf.

Even easier, by a Taco with a 3rz in it. Thats my nxt move....

Know the7M engine is 6" longer then the 22R series engine.

I was going to do that swap have all the parts but I just like the 3.4 swap better.

All kinds of support compared to all most any other swap.

if you want a project that you will be able to finish this year and don't have to re-engineer the wiring or the suspension of the truck I would look up lcengineering.com and look into some sick power from a 22re and then a sas with lockers and 5.29 gears. truck would still be light and no re-engineering the wiring harness. as far as wow factors go pull some f150s and 1500s out of the mud and you would be set.

3rz if you want 4 cyl, 5vz or 2jzgte if you want 6 cyl, Lexus or ls chevy if you want v8.
I'm with Wyoming, I like my 3.4. I'm happy with my choice.
You make the decision for your truck, all depends on what you want and can spend.

No matter just what swap you plan to do they each have there own unique set of problems .

Maybe problem is not the correct word perhaps challenges would be better suited

7MGTE wouldn't be as difficult as most parts can be found second hand for cheap and people basically give those motors away these days. 2J VVTI wouldn't be than much harder as swap brackets for a Celica or Cressida can work. But mating the JZ with the proper bellhousing would cost a bit more than the one for a M series engine.

I did a 5MGE swap into my 87 Xtracab 4x4 and I thought it was pretty easy. The wiring is almost the exact same thing as the 7MGE/GTE. As you're matching the same functions. Merging the harnesses aren't a big deal if you can read a diagram and there were many par write ups on these swaps. I used most of them for reference and wired my truck myself. But I had the factory electrical diagram books for the truck and the book for the Creasida the motor came out of. My build thread is in the Build up section if you're interested.
