temp guage hardly moves?

the temperature guage on my 91 toyota truck hardly ever moves from the cold position, it might make it about a quarter of the way past cold sometimes on a 65 degree day. Is the temp. sensor shot or could it be the thermostat? I believe it is the original t-stat. By the way the heat in the truck isn't as hot as it should be i believe. thanks for any input.

That's a huge clue.

If you're thinking that the thermostat is the original one, then replace it. I'd be bettin' that whatever is in there now is stuck open.

On a good note... Having an open thermostat is probably robbing you of some mileage as well.

anybody else run an aftermarket temp sensor along with the stock idiot dash one?

ive found my autolight guage (with numbers!) goes up and down a LOT 180-210-230 vs my stock one which just kinda sits right in the middle of the gauge virutally all the time.

anyone else notice this?

btw anyone know what "hot" is in terms of a temp? id like to know better than hmmmm that needle is getting fairly close to the red on that gauge..

Don't think you wanna go over 250 engine temp. As I recall from my old racing days, that's the number where internals start breaking down.
