temp gauge wrong reading

I just finished installing a SR5 gauge cluster in a 88 base pu 4 cyl. Prior to the install, the temp gauge would work correctly; that is, would slowly raise to the half way point on the gauge as the vehicle warmed up. Since installing the SR5 cluster, the temp gauge will immediately go to the one third position on the gauge. I have not drove it yet enough to determine if it will wait for the engine to warm up to finish moving to the half way point.
Any thoughts about why the gauge is reading on the gauge prior to the engine warming up?
