Temp Gauge Sender Connector
Hi Folks
i have a 22re EFI 1986 4wd truck EFI
I am looking at replacing the temp sensor for the cluster guage that sits on the thermostat housing.
The aftermarket parts as well as toyota all have just a metal piece sticking out of the sensor.
My part has an orange ringed plastic part on top that the connector clips on to
Temp Gauge Sensor for Cluster with Connector On
Temp Gauge Sensor for Cluster with Connector Off
Temp Gauge Sensor for Cluster with Connector Off
Does anyone know if this plastic part separates from the sending unit ?
Thanks
Jim

That is not the temp sensor for the temp gauge. That sensor cuts out the AC compressor when the engine is hotter than the factory thought proper.
The gauge sensor is in the middle of the intake manifold, close to the head.

X2 Wrong... Not a gauge sensor
Not the AC cut off or the dash sensor, but the FPU (fuel pressure up) system's TSW (temp switch).
AC cut off looks similar to the dash sensor it has just a male spade terminal but a different code stamped into the side of the brass housing and has a different color "cap". Located on the thermostat housing, next to the TSW.
Gauge sensor is below the cold start injector.
(Not to be confused, with the cold start timer)
Both the cold start timer and ECU sensor (THW) are located horizontal on the front of the intake.
Edited: for clarity and completeness.

Gonna have to disagree with millball and wallytoo

the ECU temp sensor is beside the cold start sensor under the throttle body on my truck

That sensor lies exactly where wallytoo and I said that it is.

I think Fuel Pressure-Up??? Not sure.
This is why I have discontinued using acronyms and abbreviations without explanations in my posts. It is fine to use acronyms if you say what the acronym means once in your post.
It is much easier to type the extra few letters than have people confused on what you mean, especially for "noobies".
For instance, on YotaTech, TC is short for many things such as Transfer Case, Torque Converter, Timing Chain, Timing Cover, etc.
ECT is Electronically Controlled Transmission or Engine Coolant Temperature.
Sometimes you can figure things out using context clues, but other times, you may have no idea.
Now I probably sound like an old man yelling at clouds....
Anyway, as the others have said, the sensor that controls your engine coolant temperature gauge is a separate sensor than the sensor the ECU uses.
The sensor for the gauge should be in the intake manifold between cylinder #2 and cylinder #3 intake runners right by the head.

Hi Folks
so it looks like I had the wrong part number, thus the disconnect between us
I should be looking for this one: 89428-28030: SWITCH, WATER TEMPERATURE
and not this one: 83420-20020: GAGE ASSY, WATER TEMPERATURE SENDER
https://www.megazip.net/zapchasti-dl...023680-4023680
Guess that's why I need the forum
Thanks everyone

I had this issue on my 3vze this spring. Finally said "the hell with it" and bypassed the the damn thing with an aftermarket gauge and sensor. It was very easy to do and I'm extremely confident and happy with the gauge performance many miles later now. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...estion-304459/
