Where to mount the temp sender for the trans temp

So I am going to be running a trans temp gauge in my 07 as I will do some LD towing and fear the hot slush box...

I have thought about either a hard line splice or in the pan. I dont like in the pan because it hangs down and can be killed to easily, causing the trans to drain and that would be BAD... So I plan to do a hardline splice, I could go to the rubber, but I want a more accurate reading.

So looking at that my first thought was I needed a No 1 Oil Cooler Output line, do the work, then install and sell the original one for someone else to do the mod... but then I traced the lines, if the oil cooler output line is the fluid line feeding the cooler the route is trans, aux cooler, rad cooler, trans... I would have thought it would have been trans, rad cooler, aux cooler, trans.. so now I am confuesd. Maybe I am just reading it wrong and oil cooler output really is oil cooler OUTPUT ???

What do you all think, which line do I order?

John, Im not too familiar with the 07's but oh well. Did it come with the aux cooler? or did you put it in? Either way, the latter description is what it should be I think. And even if its not it shouldnt matter, because the hard line should run into the hose before it gets to any component anyways. So putting it into that hard line shouldnt make a difference. So Id say put it in that outlet line as close to the tourqe converter as possible. Unless there is something Im completley missing you should be fine. I say that #1 Outlet, youll be good to go.

After thinking about this again. I think I know what your talkin about....stupid me....The best way that MIGHT be possible is drive around warm up ur tranny then climb under and feel which line is coolest. This might help you figure which one is for sure coming from the coolers and which one hasnt gotten to them yet. MIGHT WORK?????

You want to see the temp at the fluid's hottest point before any coolers so that you can have an idea exactly how hot things are getting. Install the sensor in the hard line that leaves the tranny. The fluide should leave the tranny, go through the radiator, then into the aux. cooler, then back into the tranny. You can try feeling which one is warmer after driving around a bunch, or you can unhook one of the lines at the cooler and start the car briefly and see which way the fluid comes out.

I have an Autometer temp gauge in my mustang, and they sell a nice temp block that you can splice into the hard line:

The more I think about it the verbage of the lines is correct, I assumed it was out of the trans, but its out of the cooler.. espically since the bottom line (99% sure its return) probally drops right into the pan.. which would be the "oil cooler outlet line"... so I will order the oil cooler inlet line... as yes I want the sender as close as possible to the tranny... Hopefully the hottest fluid is routed to the cooler...
