Big_Ern on Pirate, the brains behind this mod (I think, though it may be 4Crawler) has graciously offered to answer any question with regards to this mod. He's only on www.pirate4x4.com, not yotatech, so go over there an post any difficult questions if they aren't answered here. While your over there ask about suspension lowering kits.

And one of the big advantages of adding a separate starter relay kit like I did is that you don't need to find the location of the stock relay (if present) nor do you need to identify which wires to cut. All you have to deal with is that small wire at the solenoid and that is easy to find as there is only one of them.
I've got a York compressor and air lines obstruction my view of anthing near the starter. I may see if i can get a better view from the starter access hatch in the wheel well. My starter is actually just fine, just if I leave my battery on a while, it doesn't crank, I want the battery to at least try to turn over if I've just been listening to the radio in my car for a while/ left the parking lights on overnight.

Just FYI, in my 94 4runner (at least per the 94 FSM) the power from the relay to the solenoid does not go through the ignition (making the original wiring identical to what is accomplished with this mod).

I also had the problem where the relay would just click with no response from the starter, but after a few tries and clicks it would start. For me it turned out that the battery side starter contact as described on Roger's site was worn out. A new contact and a couple of hours worth of work had the 4runner starting like normal again.

Yep, that is why it is best to first do the simple voltage check on the solenoid control wire (under load), as noted below:

If the voltage is low the problem is upstream from the starter, figure out why and fix it. If the voltage is strong, the problem is inside the starter, likely the solenoid contacts.

matt16, I just went out in my shop and snapped a pic of mine on my '94 22re 5speed manual. I wouldn't imagine they changed its location, but could be wrong.

Much appreciated. Thanks for doing that.

Is that the starter relay? I thought it was something else, not sure what. That is also on the drivers side fender on my 1990 4Runner as well. It perplexed me that there were only two wire going into/out of the box instead of the 4 that was suggested.

First thing I did when I bought my runner was add a Relay. It's worked great and fires up everytime. I probably would of saved the money for the relay and done this had the post been around 6mths ago or so.

I believe that's the fusible link for the alternator output.
