Has anyone modified their tailgate so that it / they swing open instead of the current set up where the window has to be rolled down first to open the tailgate.

Out here in dusty conditions invariably the window does not slide down smoothly and mechanisim often jams. It woud be great to have two simple doors that swing open horizontaly or vertically.

Any ideas? Pictures. Pls post. Thanks

well that seems like a pretty big undertaking, i havent seen it b4, but i think it would be troublesome to say the least..maybe if you have a first gen you could get a topper?? and just leave the back window down...lol just shooting ideas

One thing nice about living in country like Pakistan is that it does not cost a pretty penny to get things custom made. We have great fabricators who can copy pretty much anything as long as they are given proper drawings and pictures.

 

You might be able to fab a 3rd gen butt onto a second gen. Pretty similiar measurements. Or you could buy a 3rd gen.

 

I had a 3rd Generation.. sold it few months ago..
