Alright, the rear companion flange in my t-case has some significant play and tightening the nut does not fix it. So I'm considering my two options.

1) change the rear output bearing

-Can this be done without a press and if so could somebody direct me to a writeup of someone who has done it.

2) just put a used t-case in

-I found a guy has an 89 3VZE 5speed 4x4. Will his transfer case work on my 86 22RE 5-speed 4x4. I have a W56 with an RF1A meaning it is a gear drive. I assume his is a gear drive as well.

You have the gear drive xfer case, and it is not compatible with the chain drive case of the v6 period, RUN!

My sugesstion is to pull the xfer case and fix it. Marlin Crawler has a 4:70 gear set for it and other parts you need. they are great people there and have been a big help to me in solving "stupid" problems.

Also the chain drive case rear flange has 11mm bolts and nuts that are made of unobtainium, I could use four.
