What are the symptoms of rear springs that are going/have gone bad?

 

well is your truck level?
look at the spring pack is there a broken leaf (like i got).
is your leafs kinked (agian like me).
are your springs flat, or even like a W with reverse arch.

i think i thought of all the big problems someone can corect me if they want

i will guess that a 15 year old truck with a campershell that your leafs are sagging some.

there are many options out there on what to go with depending on what you want to achieve. i am guessing you want to stay stock by reading your post there are some cheap OEM leafs out there.

if you want to save some money and you dont have any major problems that i listed above you could just put some longer shackles on to bring the rear end up

 

Most of these trucks have an overload leaf - if they're flat and/or sitting on that overload leaf in the rear, time to get some help.

I just added the add-a-leaf from Jegs.. forget the vendor - about $30 for both sides - levels the 4runner and provides a much better ride. I'm not ready to lift yet, but I think it's one of the best dollar per benefit mods you can do.

 

I don't know how flat "flat" is so I'll ad a couple pics.





The first one is probably a little low to tell, but I think the second is looking directly horizontal at it.

 

you still have some arch but not much, that is about as flat as you would want your springs to go, i dont know if an AAL will give you any arch. dcg could help you with that one but it would probably be helpful and be good for your purpose. wow i forgot how cramped the tire makes it under there
