On my new to me extra-cab '95 the driver's side seat belt has some wear and is slowly coming apart. As usual the return spring no longer pulls it taught. Does anyone know if
it can be swapped with the rear passenger one in it's entierty ? ( the belt right in back of me )

 

Does yours have shoulder belts in the rear? My '92 just has lap belts back there. I cannot answer your specific question, but I do know that you can get used ones in decent shape from the salvage yard for not too expensive.

 

Its probably possible but Im going to guess that your rear belt is shorter than the front belt. The front belts go to the floor board, and the rear belts are mounted close to the bench seats. about a foot higher than the floor board. One way to find is to swap them and find out. good luck

 

OK thanks, and yes they are shoulder belts. We got Japanese built trucks in Canada and there are some nuances. I'll try it out next weekend and let you all know !

If you have a sewing machine (or know someone who does) you can actually make your own belts. My driver's-side was just worn enough to make retraction iffy. I bought some nylon belt (backpacking stores carry it), and just copied the old belt. (the belt is folded back on itself near the floor anchor; the stitches are designed to pull apart on a really hard hit and decrease the shock on you).

Using a junk-yard belt is only going to buy you sone time. While you might not be 100% sure that you can sew the belt perfectly, I'm certain my belt is better than any 20-yr old junked belt.
