as you all know there really isint alot of room behind the bench seat in my standard cab. so i want a speaker box with 2 10in sub's
their disal audio's 1010 i got a really good deal on them and couldnt pass it up. so what kind of box should i start building, any ideas are welcome except the dumb a$s ones like some of you guys like to pull

 

It would be hard to put something behind there, if the speakers throw alot they could hit your seat or something and crack.

Well i guess they do make flat subs.

How deep are they from the mounting surface to the bottom of the magnet?

 

Its for a tacoma, But me thinks itll do fine in your 3rd gen pickup...

Make some custom ones out of MDF. It's not hard, just glue then nail them together. After they dry, go around all the cracks with silicone and you have an airtight box.

The outside looks pretty good with a coat of felt or rubberized undercoating too.

 

glue, nail then silicone? why not glue with silicone then nail?
saves you the cost of the glue.

 

What's wrong with the stock sound system?

 

Because glue is what holds the wood together. The nails simply hold the pieces while the glue dries. The silicone is then to create an air tight seal should you have missed a gap.

Silicone is flexible. If you were to use it as a glue, the whole box would not be a solid structure, and would likely fall apart.

 

I have got two 12 inch infinity perfects behind the seat of my 88 truck. I have pics of it in my album you should take a look for some ideas. I did take out my bench tho and shove some old bucket seats in it but if you are at all good at woodwork you can easily build a box to fit

 

I built this one for a guy with a Ford Ranger Standard Cab and he never paid for it the air space is built with 2 10's that require .75 each. It's made of 3/4 mdf and liquid nail some nails and silicone to make it air tight. I was going to add two 3" ports for it but like I said he never paid for it so I did nothing about that.but it would be very easy to add if needed. It was built off a program to get the correct specs for the speakers and air space needed.I used some out door carpet to cover it because he said he had a leak from his back sliding window and carpet glue to hold it on.
top is 5.5" wide
bottom is 9.25" wide
length is 36" end to end
Not sure if this will fit your single cab but if so there's the dimensions you will need too work with if you have a set of 10's requiring .75 ft. air space each even have the 600 watt each 10's I was going to put into this unit as you can see in the second picture lol

 

you know, if you play legit tapes as opposed to CDs or the radio, the sound sounds a lot better.

 

Harley man, Due to the tranny humps in the trucks, that box wouldnt do very well...

 

well then you cut it down the middle and you have two separate box's or you can build a small shelf thing to go over the hump and mount the box on top of that bringing up the sound a bit as well.

I have 2 10's and 2 5 1/4's behind my buckets in my 86 xtra cab. I took measurements for the bottom of the box off of the floor so the bottom would just clear the gas tank hump. I took the measurement from the gas tank hump to the floor and made a template ouf of cardboard and kept trimming it to fit the counours in the floor and used that as the front of the box so it goes from the floor to just under the window and has a solid base on the floor. I looked at how much air space my subs needed for optimal performance and kept changing the width and height til it was just right. In between the two sealed sub chambers, I made a spot for 2 5 1/4's. I jazzed it up with some fluse mounted plexi glass and threw in some blue led strips to light it up. I covered it in carpet and it looks and sounds great. I used 3/4" plywood to save weight and did several coats of fiberglass resin to make it air tight. Its mint. Ill post pics tomorrow when I get home to show ya.

 

Another option would be to mount them under the seats facing down, sealed against the body (and hopefully without interference from the seat itself, and wire them with reversed polarity, and if the airspace is too small, you could cut the floor and attach an enclosure underneath the cab.

--- and I've built a few boxes using silicone to seal it... roughed up the surfaces with 100 grit sandpaper first though..., but I drill pilot holes and use deck screws instead of nails so no issue holding it together.

mine are under the seats. lol

i thought about putting (2) 8 inch solo-baric kickers in the spot where my center console is.. seems more possible .. considering that its 8 inches between my seats.

 

On the rear wall of the cab?
